Thank you for being intelligent. Many of your students who I have come in contact with, testify to this. But even before they do, we all know! The depth with which you know things is deeply commendable. And of course, you were the best graduating student in your department, I should not expect anything less!
You’ve been a passionate researcher! You are not like the lecturers we have here and there today who get their PhDs via ‘Copy and Paste’. I watch my dad sit down with books, jot down, write references, write his own books- in pen and paper! Devoid of any plagiarism! You are an inspiration, sir!
I wonder how you know a bit of everything! You talk about history, politics, sociology, and demography, about this and that and these and those! I am usually amazed at all of these and thankfully, that part of you sharpened my horizon and piqued my curiosity to know more beyond my own area of specialty too!
Thank you sir for sending me to Bowen University on your meager salary as a lecturer. This is a great height of sacrifice. I cannot forget it because I must confess, Bowen University, through God, made me! I can’t imagine my life outside that atmosphere. That world on its own carved me! Only my God can understand how much. In actual fact, I used to think that lecturers are so rich and all because you made us attend very good, high-paying primary and secondary schools and you never refuted my choice of going to a private university, but as I grew, I came to the realization that these set of professionals and builders (teachers and lecturers) are the most underestimated and under-celebrated ones in Nigeria- sadly!
I don’t know if you know sir, but just like you and mum have great interest and sharp intelligence to understand and speak languages foreign to you, I have too! I pick up languages very fast! I am so interested in cultures and traditions. I speak Portuguese and Spanish to a great extent now and Hausa and Jukun Ichen languages are thriving too on my tongue! Graças a Deus! (Thank God)
Thanks for recognizing my writing skills so fast. Thanks for giving me books and pens to write. Thanks for publishing my storybooks for me. Thanks for appreciating my cooking skills. Thanks for fishing out amazing talents in me, even before I realize them! I am forever indebted to you for that, sir!
And for all the Bibles you give to us on our birthdays and New Year, ah, I think that must have heightened my love for God’s Word. I see you bookmark almost all the pages of your Bible and I do the same even without realizing it! Thanks for desiring that all your children are children of God because, by His grace, the Lord is raising us all for His own glory!
As social media has become so prevalent now, I can see you have finally ported here also, because I see your writings on Facebook every now and then. Since you indicated your interest in owning a website a few years ago, it has been one of my desires to make the dream come true. Yesterday, as the thought came again, I realized that that would be the best birthday gift for you! I called Elijah, your son, to set up a domain name and server for me and I got to work, designing and building the website (what do you have a website designer daughter for, sir? Haha) It was not easy trying to achieve this in a few hours, especially with loads of writings I had to import from your Facebook but graças a Deus, your website is up and some of your posts are up too!
