The running battle between a group of Lagos mothers and the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has again brought to the fore the need to do something urgently in order to save the Nigerian society from the problems confronting her. I am not an alarmist nor do I like painting the devil black; but if the truth must be told, we are sitting on a KEG OF GUNPOWDER. When it will explode, I have no way of knowing but when it does explode, the effect will be CATASTROPHIC! The ebbulient, outspoken, Lagos-based pastor- politician, recalled how, on the 16th of July 1973 when he wanted to leave Abeokuta for Lagos, his mother told him in her Egba dialect EKO LO NLO YI O, RANTI PE O LEYAN O (as you are going to Lagos now, remember the son of whom you are!). That was on the occasion of this year’s MOTHER’S DAY. He did not forget to tell his congregation that that his mother taught him ACCOUNTABILITY and TRANSPARENCY in financial matters! The foregoing is typical of any Nigerian, nay African, mothers who have been thoroughly groomed in the business of MOTHERHOOD. I am at a loss, therefore, understanding the origin of this FACELESS LAGOS MOTHERS who intend to form an ASSOCIATION OF MOTHERS OF YAHOO-YAHOO BOYS AND GIRLS! The principal objective of the proposed association is to counter the activities of the EFCC officials who have been HARASSING their children because of the profession (?) they are in. To them the involvement of these kids in INTERNET FRAUD enabled them to cater for the needs of the families! It is to be noted that these women are not typical Nigerian mothers. They are a group that I will rather call BANANA ISLAND MOTHERS who, through ill-gotten wealth, do not see anything bad in their children bringing home the GAINS OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. Mothers in Ajangbadi, Orile-Iganmu, Ajegunle, Okokomaiko, Oworosonki, Ita-Balogun and such areas are properly socialized mothers who realise the seriousness of motherhood. My recommendation therefore is that, the EFCC should not bother to arraign these women in the court of law. They are so rich and well-connected that they can easily buy their way out. They should be arraigned in the COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION and be tutored how not to be POLLUTANTS to young minds they call their children. Women in the inner core of Lagos should be given the job of organizing TUTORIALS for them on how to be good mothers!
